Blind Nailing
Blind nailing is a term that refers to a construction technique in which contractors drive nails into a wall, then cover those nails with putty or some other concealing substance. This is most often done in more modern homes as it helps to maintain the seamless contemporary look. Blind nailing is cosmetic in nature, with the integrity of the home not threatened by the technique. Many older homes opt for an open nailing technique. With this method, the heads of nails will clearly show in the walls and floors. Proponents of this technique feel that this produces a rustic look within the home. The open nailing technique can also make it easier for a person who might come to the home to do remodeling work in the future. If the nails are covered by putty, it can be difficult to know where studs are located throughout the structure.
