Grantee

A grantee is the person who is legally receiving the title to a piece of property. In short, the grantee is the buyer. If the grantee then decides to sell the property, they would become the grantor. When most people buy a home, the title is not immediately transferred to the grantee. Oftentimes, the bank will be the legal owner of the property until the grantee has paid off the mortgage in full. Grantee is the official term used in the document that transfers property between the buyer and the seller. Most towns offer a grantor/grantee index that will show the legal transfer of property between all buyers and sellers in that town or county and will specify what kind of legal document was used to transfer ownership of the home.
